So much here resonates with my experience, particularly the piece around widening of focus/ awareness / attention. I find this exceptionally hard a lot of the time; and it's complicated by being AuDHD so I have the double whammy of being infinitely distractable by both internal and external rabbit holes. Really appreciate these perspectives and would like to learn more.

Hi Morgana, firstly, thanks for reading and subscribing - it’s much appreciated. Thanks also for sharing your own experience. I’m really curious to hear others’ experiences, and what you say here makes sense. Feel free to let me know if there is anything specifically you would like to learn more about. It might be inspiration for another article, or I can reply here. Warm wishes 🤍

This explains so much of my experience, especially with breath work. My heart rate tends to increase when I follow a breathing pattern that’s supposed to slow it, for example.

A very insightful article; should be required reading for many so called meditation teachers. I have met a few and was baffled by their lack of knowledge regarding the diversity of human nature and mental systems. With very negative consequences.

I am so sorry you have had to go through this.

I can’t speak to your experience, but can say I’ve had some traumatic and re-traumatising experiences with certain practices, teachers, and within certain institutions.

I can resonate with feeling traumatized when I took a training for EMDR. It was yet another moment in my life when my struggle with short-term memory was viewed as not paying attention. I struggle terribly with role play and even got paired with a different participant when a complaint was made. That was a terrible week and money wasted.

I recently learned of the concept of monotropism. That has been a very interesting delve into understanding different nervous systems and communication styles.
